On May 15, 2013, Plumas County Office of Emergency Services hosted an Emergency Preparedness Exercise known as the Golden Guardian. This annual exercise is an essential public safety tool, designed to ensure counties train and prepare emergency response personnel for catastrophic events.
More than 30 agencies with over 100 participants took part in this year's exercise which took place near Blairsden. The scenario includes an earthquake which leads to a train derailment, fire, and hazardous materials release.
This is by far the biggest training exercise that Plumas County has conducted.
