It is that time of year again and winter weather preparedness is vital to the safety and well-being of you and your family.  Please be advised of the current and upcoming winter storms that could create hazardous road conditions, power outages, frozen pipes, flooding, mud and rock slides, and other unplanned weather related events.  The following links and videos can be used to assist with how one should prepare for a severe winter storm for both the home and the road.

PREPARE YOUR VEHICLE

Below is a listing of the essential emergency travel supplies that every driver should consider having in their vehicle(s) through the winter season. These suggestions were obtained from NOAA and the CDC websites. Other helpful resources include the National Weather Service and Red Cross.

  • Battery-powered radio and extra batteries
  • Flashlight & Extra Batteries
  • Blankets or sleeping bags
  • First Aid Kit and Manual
  • Jumper Cables
  • Shovel
  • Non-perishable High-Energy Foods (granola bars, peanut butter)
  • Tire Repair Kit and Pump 
  • Compass or GPS and Road Maps
  • Extra Dry Clothing (include hats and gloves) 
  • Sand or Kitty Litter for traction 
  • Flares and/or Reflective Emergency Triangles 
  • Tow Rope 
  • Pencil/Pen and Paper 
  • Knife 
  • Matches

  • Bright colored flag to signal need for HELP
