The recreation and tourism economy is clearly hurting, with ski resorts like Royal Gorge temporarily closing due to lack of snow.

What might impact a visitor is the effect on water recreation -- low flow on the rivers, camping restrictions in the back country, fire restrictions on camping everywhere.

Lake levels vary around the county but many are at or near seasonal lows.  The complex balance of beneficial uses for this resource varies by reservoir.   Economic impacts are anticipated but difficult to quantify.

Fishing Closures

Drought conditions persist in our state regardless of recent precipitation. According to the Department of Water Resources, it would need to rain heavily every other day from now through the end of May to reach average precipitation. Because of this, the Department of Fish and Wildlife and the Fish and Game Commission have enacted closures to some rivers and streams in the state. Some proposed closures have yet to take effect, but are estimated to be effective around February 23.
