Health and Safety

To protect the personal safety of its employees, the Public Works Department has developed and manages a Safety program that not only provides for safety meetings and training but is also responsible for managing in-house risk management, reviewing the department's Workers' Compensation Program, and Cal-OSHA compliance.

The Department of Public Works Safety Officer and Assistant Safety Officer's duties include overseeing workplace safety, safety training, safety inspections, and receiving accident reports and investigating them.

The Safety Officer and Assistant Safety Officer also work in conjunction with the County Risk Management on safety issues both for the Department and for public safety.
