Firewood Information

Most people begin to prepare for cold weather by purchasing wood for their woodstove or fireplace well before winter. Wood is a good source of heat, but do you know how wood is sold? Firewood is to be sold by a cord or a fraction of a cord. A cord is 128 cubic feet. For example, a stack of wood 4 feet high by 4 feet wide by 8 feet long is 128 cu. ft. 4 X 4 X 8 = 128. You are also to be provided at the time of sale/delivery of the wood a sales invoice with the following information:

  • Name and address of the seller
  • Date of the purchase or delivery
  • The quantity of wood purchased
  • The price paid
